Lead has unique properties of high density, malleability and corrosion resistance. These properties make lead a vital industrial material that is used safely in a range of applications. For example, lead is widely used for radiation shielding not only in the nuclear and defense industries but also in medical fields where the use of x-ray and radio-pharmaceutical scanning technology is becoming increasingly widespread.

Due to its density, lead has excellent noise-proofing qualities and is used widely for sound attenuation, for example in high density housing.

Lead’s low melting point of the high recovery rate of scrap material make lead a very green material. Life cycle analysis carried out by TNO, the independent Dutch research organization, concludes that the environmental credentials of sheet lead are better than any available substitute product.

Calder Group is committed to responsible environmental management policies We operate under ISO 14001 environmental management systems in all our subsidiaries We aspire to using 100% recycled material.  We currently achieve a rate of over 95%
We believe that, used correctly in the right applications, lead is a safe material with very strong sustainability credentials
